Agree with you ! Six innings was fine. When Oli went out to the mound, he must have been asking if he was feeling tired and told 'No'
Oli deferred to the veteran. If Gray had been any other pitcher , Oli would have just pulled him .
So Oli gave his top arm the benefit of the doubt and bingo wouldn't you know it got burned with the grand slam .
The old ' the manager took the guy out one pitch too late' thing.
Now that Oli was burned , if Gray would start a 7th inning next time (which unsure if Oi would ) , you can bet if even the first batter gets on base .. walk , scratch hit, blooper Oli will pull him right then and there.
No doubt Oli would've pulled Pallante or Libby, probably Fedde too.

Not many veterans like Gray are going to tell the Manager they want to be yanked, up to Oli to make that call.
Really helped to have Yadi to give an honest take. Now Marmol has no help to go along with having no feel for it on his own.

The Twins start was uneven at best. Yesterday was a disaster, despite 9 SO's. He is getting hit harder than anyone else on staff. His ERA is 5.73.
Alarmist or sound the alarm?
I wonder what shade of Gray we'll see in his next start.

My wife brought up something from last year and I have not had a chance to look it up. She seems to recall that last year Gray really struggled from the 6th inning on. I think that she is correct on this.

Here's my 3 cents. Inflation.

He went to NY and was an abject failure. Ran him out of town and it didn't bother him a bit.

It has been alleged that he was perfectly content remaining in SL during a rebuild as opposed to being dealt to a potential contender.

30 M a year Win or Lose ultimately for him.

I question his ambition. Seems perfectly content blending into the woodwork as opposed to being a leader on a potential winner.

Had a good year last year. Some blips for sure. Not a 30 M Number 1 at this age and stage of his career.

You’re Monday morning quarterbacking.

Oli may have wanted the bullpen to get a little rest. Or maybe Oli watched on Monday and Tues how the bullpen was shaky.

Its not really Monday morning quarterbacking everyone on here who paid attention to games last season knows hes not a 7 inning pitcher you would think Oli would be able to know that also. His ERA was 5.33 in the 5th 4.67 in the 6th and 4.82 in the 7th. So while some veterans you might go with in that situation but Gray should not pitch past the 6th he is not that guy and if he runs into trouble in the 6th need to pull him fast. Fortunately the offense bailed oli out of his bad managing which is what it will have to do a lot this season
