IMHO Must Win Tomorrow

Post by swatski »

With the next three games being Colorado, Winnipeg and Edmonton where points will be at a premium, Blues must get 2 points vs Preds tomorrow. Can’t rely on any help from the Wild, Flames and Canucks opponents.

This is an important game, but worry we are going to come out tight since this will tie the longest winning streak of all time. Plus, there is a stigma that the winning streak started after a lose to the Pens.

I remember Belichek saying he should have benched Brady for game 16 of the 2008 season as he felt the perfect record wore on his team and was a factor in them getting upset. I would love to win the next 2 to break the record, then lose one before the playoffs start just to get that off our shoulders.

I think saying must win is a little over panicking.

The canucks are most likely dead in the water anyways losing to the kraken after period 1 right now and having 5 of last 7 games vs playoff teams while we have big advantage.

Calgary doesnt have several games against the ducks and sharks but needs almost perfection to catch us and still face wild who will also be fighting for their lives. Wild face canucks and flames actually back to back.

Honestly though, colorado is losing their game in hand to chicago 2-0 right now. Colorado faces bluejackets on turn of back to back tomorriw. If we win tomorrow and colorado loses, we pull within 3 pojnts of avs with same number of games with our next game against them and catcbing them comes on the table

Avs know what they are doing. They want to slide out of their spot into the top wild card. Nobody wants to play Dallas (or the Blues), so Avs will start resting players. Dallas >>Vegas

Calgary, assuming the blues don't lose almost every game on the run in, need to gain about 13 points in their last 16 points possible.

Vancouver, assuming the same situation, need 14 out of 14, can't lose again.

In the worst of scenarios, i envision the blues finishing with 5 points, can't seem them losing 5 or 6 games outright.

If the blues didn't get 2 points tuesday, i think a small world where they finish with 91-92 points then exists, and you could maybe see calgary going 11 out of 16 in the stretch run.

I think the only real race left is the #1 spot in the central and the WC1 vs WC2, everything else is too 'pigs fly' to be realistic.

Vancouver and Utah are virtually done. Assuming the Flames win their two games in-hand the Blues have a 3 point lead with 6 remaining, and a tough schedule ahead. The Penguins game is as close to must win as it gets without actually being must-win. Losing it invites disaster.

The Blues still need to play lights-out hockey.

If we go .500 over the rest of the year we hit 95 pts.

Calgary would need 13 from 16 (6-2-1) to hit 95.

Assuming our 3 wins come in regulation we would hold the tiebreaker I believe, meaning Calgary need 96pts.

Calgarys current form is about .500 so based on that they are likely to hit 90, maybe 91 points.

That beung said we just need to focus on us, we play like we have been and it doesnt matter.

I’d like to see the Blues go 4/6 to finish. Minnesota plays Calgary and Vancouver. If they win both or lose both it could help the Blues one way or the other. Calgary also has 2 games against Vegas so hopefully they win one if this games. I’d like to see the Flames lose 3-4 games.

Huh? Avs recently went on a run in which they lost one game in regulation over a 14-game span. During that streak, beat Dallas.

Avs surely were playing to win Saturday versus Blues and easily could have won (two goal posts, slightly outshot Blues).

Hardly a team that is purposely moving down in the standings.

While I get what you are saying, they played a hard nosed game against the Blues which was their best chance to ensure the point swing, they have been the 2nd hottest team next to the Blues, I don't see them deliberately throwing their spot. I do see them taking a cautious approach on their way to the playoffs like most teams should be doing and looking at ice time and try to balance it so the players are playing and fresh, but not getting bad shifts. This will lead to some losses. Last time the Blues were locked into the playoffs with the Mild, you saw them start giving ROR 15 minute nights and less. Then sure enough he was averaging 21+ a game in the playoffs.

If the Blues can break the record that's a biproduct and a bonus. Their goal should be to lock that playoff spot in as fast as possible so they themselves can start pulling some of their top line minutes. The best thing we got going is Joseph, Snuggs, Bolduc, Walker, Faksa, Torps they could all use the time to get some heavy minutes if we had that luxury. Hopefully we can get there.

Well I believe they are all must-win games one at a time until we know we are in for sure. Focus on us and not the out-of-town scoreboard. At that point rest 1-2 players at a time so that we do not lose the rhythm and give any and all that may be called upon a chance to also get into games.

Hopefully Vegas can give the Flames a loss tomorrow night. I’m assuming Anaheim and San Jose will be wins for the Flames. I’d like to see them lose sooner than later so they don’t build any more momentum.
