from the article:

Does this Giants ownership group care about winning? On a macro level, sure. Winning drives interest, sells tickets and generates revenue. But what kind of winning does it care about?

sound familiar?

This is like 80% of baseball teams. Most owners don't own teams because they like baseball or want their team to be the best, they own them because its a business they can make money on and a good way to get into real estate in a mid to large city. Owners have killed a lot of the fun in baseball and thats a shame.

Can't say I disagree.

No disagreement here. Larry Baer made a huge PR faux pas when he spoke about payroll publicly, no question. Oracle Park is a great place to watch a baseball game. There is a ton of corporate and personal wealth in the Bay Area. They did win the World Series in 2012 and 2014, but haven't done much in the postseason since then. They do play in the Dodgers division. Not all the parallels to STL are valid.

They signed Adames. Cardinals signed Phil Maton.

Giants have a much bigger challenge in winning their division with the big spending Dodgers in their division. Good reason for the salary cap.

I think another part of this are the rule changes.

They aren't trying to make the game better, just more watchable.

Essentially dumbing down chess for a more profitable, but watered down product in checkers.
