I recently stumbled onto the sports-reference Player Efficiency Ratings that were developed to apply to the NBA.
The current ratings are at -> link to sports-reference.com. The PER is in the Advanced stats at the bottom.
Do not click on the conference tab for now as the Humrichous PER in the first two games is scary. You've been warned.
WIKI:
PER strives to measure a player's per-minute performance, while adjusting for pace. A league-average PER is always 15.00, which permits comparisons of player performance across seasons. PER takes into account positive results, including field goals, free throws, 3-pointers, assists, rebounds, blocks and steals and negative results, including missed shots, turnovers and personal fouls. The formula adds positive stats and subtracts negative ones through a statistical point value system. The rating for each player is then adjusted to a per-minute basis so that, for example, substitutes can be compared with starters in playing time debates. It is also adjusted for the team's pace. In the end, one number sums up the players' statistical accomplishments for that season.
I thought it would be interesting to compare this year’s squad (so far) to recent teams / players using the ratings at sports-reference.com.
One thing I found was that while the NBA ratings seem to rate guards / wings higher than expected the Illini college rankings seem to rate centers, power forwards, wings / shooting guards / point guards highest to lowest.
Anyway, trying to group like roles & taking a look:

Re: Player Efficiency Ratings
Well after the Chicago State game:
Humrichous's PER has fallen to 10.4. His is now below Keaton Kutcher's 13.1 and DGL's 13.3.
I guess 1 bucket a game will do that to a shooter like Humrichous. Chicago State's defense must have had an effect.

Re: Player Efficiency Ratings
Hum's in a bad slump right now for sure. Tough to play him over some other guys until he finds it. Was glad to see Ivisic and Morez in the game together yesterday. The hi-low action was effective, but Chicago State is also a tiny team. But at least it's a look we can use if the size matchup works in our favor. Morez has been a beast down low for a freshman so far. Hopefully Hum finds it. A 6'9" shooter is always a good thing to have.
Re: Player Efficiency Ratings
yes, this....totally agree. The high-low 2 bigs action can be effective against a zone too which Mizzou showed can flummox our normal ball screen action.ChiefSTL wrote: ↑30 Dec 2024 13:11 pm Hum's in a bad slump right now for sure.
