What is the attraction to Siani?
The guy can’t hit …. We need to let Scott play and if he fails then go to Siani

Re: What is the attraction to Siani?
Well the attraction is elite defense, but I agree, I'd much rather see him as a late-inning CF replacement.
However:
-he is young and did start to show some improvement at the plate last year
-excellent base stealing threat
...and currently, considering Noot has never played a full season due to injuries, I don't mind giving Siani a lot of reps, especially in the early days of ST.
Def need to see more of what VSIII can do, though.

Superb defense. He makes the entire outfield better when he plays. He had his average up to .250 or so before his injury so he was hitting as well or better than most guys on the team at that time. Give the kid a chance. He might surprise us! I like him..

Re: What is the attraction to Siani?
Making a horrible offense OF slightly better at Defense is idiotic. Burelson makes the offense far better than Siani does the defense.slimjay63801 wrote: ↑22 Feb 2025 09:31 amSuperb defense. I'm not saying he should be playing over Burly. I'm just saying that I do like his potential upside. Burly's bat must play though, I agree with you there.Youboughtit wrote: ↑22 Feb 2025 09:33 amMaking a horrible offense OF slightly better at Defense is idiotic. Re: What is the attraction to Siani?
Something be besides Burelson needs removed and Siani seems to be the one of Gorman is a must play vs RHP and Burly is also LH. This will be a big issue. Really thought it was a no brainer to play Noot in CFslimjay63801 wrote: ↑22 Feb 2025 09:36 amI'm not saying he should be playing over Burly. I'm just saying that I do like his potential upside. It's the first game of ST. Considering Noot's injury history, I don't mind him playing in CF as little as possible, at least until the games matter.Youboughtit wrote: ↑22 Feb 2025 09:42 amSomething be besides Burelson needs removed and Siani seems to be the one of Gorman is a must play vs RHP and Burly is also LH. Ok. But the best offense needs to play on a team that will struggle to score. Let’s see what happens but I think Oli messes it up by playing defense firstblackinkbiz wrote: ↑22 Feb 2025 09:47 amIt's the first game of ST. I don’t mind Siani getting a look.
He brings elite defense and I thought his bat was coming around leading up to his injury.

Re: What is the attraction to Siani?
Most Card fans have forgotten what a great CF looks like. They thought Bader was it. Wasn't a great outfielder. Saw some great catches. But saw him too often turn and run back to get the ball that he dove and wiffed on. But hey he had made sportscenter for the good ones. Had speed. Wasn't a base stealer. Had to be on base to steal. Couldn't hit a lick. Now they drool over Siani. Defense seems to be all that they think you need.. How many years since we had a bonafide major league outfield? 2013.... 2013. Twelve years of a rebuild out there where you need production. Wasted years.

IMO, Oli is one of the top 5 obstacles in 2025. His dirty little fingers need be kept out of the cookie jar as much as possible.Youboughtit wrote: ↑22 Feb 2025 10:02 amblackinkbiz wrote: ↑22 Feb 2025 09:47 amIt's the first game of ST. Re: What is the attraction to Siani?
Neither are Major League caliber starting players. Neither should start unless they earn a job. This team has no centerfielder who is close who can hit.
By default we are stuck with Noot playing center out of position or one of these two.
The best option (and it’s not a good one) is Noot in center then move Noot to a corner late in games we are winning and drop Siani as a defensive replacement.

Re: What is the attraction to Siani?
Noot + Burly offense > Noot + Siani/Scott Defense. Especially on a team that needs offense. The Dodgers could afford to play a Defenseive first CF. Not this roster.Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑22 Feb 2025 10:16 amNeither are Major League caliber players. Neither should start unless they earn a job. Re: What is the attraction to Siani?
Pitching staffs tend to like elite defense in CF.
And elite defensive CF's tend to play as a result.
Remember Gary Pettis?
Played 13 years in MLB - 8 as a starter.
Career .236 BA.
Never more than 56 RBI in a season.
Scored 93 one year and 77 another - and never had more than 67 in any other season.
Never hit more than 5 HR in a season.
Incredibly, reach 20 doubles in a season just one time.
But, he did win 5 Gold Gloves in 6 years - routinely rating 15-20 runs better with the glove than league average.
And that kept him on the field.
