Re: Shogun
I am enjoying watching this series. Great acting and I enjoy reading the words in English when some talk.

Re: Shogun
The original blew me away so much that I started watching it again, and have not yet seen the new version.
One thing that saddens me is that the incredible grace and old school femininity of the female characters on display in the original seems not to have been captured in the few clips I have seen of the new series.
Also… hardly any subtitles were used in the original, especially in the beginning. That put the viewer in exactly the same state of fearful ignorance as The Pilot Major.
The budget and CGI sure have created a grander spectacle, but as a former Actor… it is always the specific behaviors which captivate me most.

Re: Shogun
I watched the original Shogun back in the 80's and it has been my favorite miniseries since. I even have the DVD.
I don't get Hulu now but will watch after all the episodes air.
Re: Shogun
I haven't cut the cable yet. Long story and I desperately want to cut that cable. Anyway, I watched Shogun using the "On Demand" option. I have really enjoyed watching it. This presentation does not align with the older version.GOLDFINGER123 wrote: ↑06 Apr 2024 10:12 amI watched the original Shogun back in the 80's and it has been my favorite miniseries since. Re: Shogun
This last episode was troubling to watch. The previews for next week gave the impression that Toragana is going to fight back. I look forward to that episode.
Re: Shogun
The final episode is tomorrow night. Will Toranaga become Shogun? Will he step up for the heir to protect him? Will others who were imprisoned get out and have their vassals join Toranaga in Crimson Sky which was an attack on Edo?

Re: Shogun
I enjoyed watching the latest version of Shogun but the original was much better.
Re: Shogun
I didn't remember the first mini-series ending this way. I watched it on Demand and dang, there were a lot of commercials. It killed the flow of the episode. All in all, I did enjoy Shogun.
