SAINT LOUIS, October 8, 2012 -- St. Louis may be one of “the most dangerous cities in America” but crooks and thieves beware. On Saturday, October 27th a host of masked crusaders, scantly clad witches and various Simpsons characters will take over Shaw Park in Clayton. However, they won’t be there to fight crime. Instead they’ll be there to play volleyball.
“Let me tell you something brother! When the Hulkster isn’t flexing the pythons, beating up on Ric Flair or practicing ripping off old t-shirts, I’m honing in my volleyball skills. We all know how much I like taking my shirt off and what better place than a sand volleyball court and for what better cause than to help out the hungry,” Hulk Hogan (probably).
Typically reserved for dudes with their shirts off (see above), SoCal beach babes (think Baywatch) or little kids building sand castles and hanging all over the nets; this weekend, we’ll transform the Shaw Park volleyball courts into a who’s who of halloweened awesomeness. And all for an excellent cause -- feeding the needy around the holidays.
“It’s really nice to be the giver instead of the given this time. Despite the fact that I have no nutritional value and I’m not exactly cheap, I still tend to be a pretty popular giveaway to kids this time of year. It’s a nice feeling to be able to give back to the community that has given me (away) so often,” Peanut M&M (definitely).
The Volloween tournament will be a one-day event where costumed participants are encouraged to bring coolers full of their favorite beverages (no bottles please as there will likely be a barefoot hippy in attendance,) food, radios (no Michael Jackson please out of respect for the Michael Jackson in attendance,) fun and of course non-perishable food items to be donated to the local food bank just in time for the holidays.
