St. Louis (October 16, 2012) – The Urbane Lifestyle and Entertainment Group, in partnership with Teach For America Corps (TFA), has raised more than $4,500 in the ‘1,000 Backpacks for Back-to-School’ campaign, benefiting inner-city students. All proceeds from the August 2012 initiative will go toward school supplies and backpacks for underserved children in Chicago, Houston, Miami, St. Louis, and Washington, D.C.
During the 30-day challenge generous supporters joined the online fundraising effort, giving nearly 800 children the tools they will need to be successful for the new school year. On Wednesday, October 17, members of Urbane St. Louis [STL] will visit Riverview Gardens High School to deliver the backpacks and speak with the students about the importance of education, as well as life after they graduate.
This is just one of three schools in the St. Louis Area that will benefit from the drive.
Committed to improving the lives of people throughout the community, Urbane aids organizations that focus on education, community services and the arts. Teach for America was a natural fit for a partnership. Both organizations share in the vision that all students, regardless of their race or socioeconomic status, should have access to a quality education and the materials they need to achieve that education.
“We are proud of this year’s incredible campaign results and very thankful for each donation,” said Justin Johnson, an Urbane STL Associate. “Working with Teach for America not only allowed us to help children in need, but it also gave us an opportunity to introduce our network to the amazing work that these champions do every day.”
