In a statement issued today at 10 a.m. the event organizers stated, “The JB Blast scheduled for tonight, Friday, October 5th, has been canceled due to the weather and in the interests of the safety and comfort of our JB Blast patrons. We look forward to holding the event in 2013 in July.”
The JB Blast was originally scheduled for Tuesday, July 3rd. It was postponed then due to the extreme dry weather conditions at the time when a fireworks permit could not be issued. The event was rescheduled for October 5th once the sponsors, band, fireworks, equipment and vendors agreed to be available that date. It was anticipated that the cooler weather would have provided for a setting of a patriotic celebration of America in Jefferson Barracks. The irony that this event has been canceled due to wet weather is noted.
This free, fun-filled event was to feature the U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America's Concert Band from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with fireworks to follow. JB Blast is sponsored by St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley, Councilman Steve Stenger, St. Louis County Police, St. Louis County Parks and other business partners.
Jefferson Barracks Park is located at the intersection of Broadway and Kingston. For more information, visit www.stlouisco.com/parks or call 615-4386. Park programs are available for all abilities.
