First Area Lawsuit Against Medtronic for its Spine Surgery Product, Infuse(r) Filed
Medtronic, Inc. has been named in the first of what will be many lawsuits filed in St. Louis by patients concerning complications from Medtronic's spine surgery product, Infuse(r). Similar cases have been filed across the country.
Infuse(r) is a liquid protein (BMP) that causes growth of bone. The lawsuits allege, among other things, that the Infuse(r) continues to grow bone outside of the intended area, crushing nerves and blocking nerve pathways. Additionally, it is alleged that Medtronic, Inc., Medtronic Sofamor Danek USA, Inc., and several doctors failed to properly disclose complications during the FDA approval process.
Kentucky attorneys, David Gray and Brett Oppenheimer have joined with local attorney, Matt Casey to evaluate and file these cases locally. The first case filed in St. Louis Circuit Court is on behalf of patient, Veronica Hilyard against Medtronic, Inc, Dr. Timothy Kuklo and others.
