ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO (Sept. 10, 2012) --- Thousands of runners and spectators will soon be ringing cowbells and enjoying the festivities during the second annual MO’ Cowbell Half Marathon and 5K starting 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 in Frontier Park on the historic St. Charles riverfront.
Hailed as the “fastest and flattest course in metro St. Louis,” MO’ Cowbell is organized by the civic group Partners for Progress of Greater St. Charles in cooperation with Big River Running Company.
“There is a serious buzz in the region about MO’ Cowbell, especially when you consider we had 1,500 runners in 2011 and now expect 3,000 or more this year,” said Kerin Abbey, race chair. And yes, she confirmed, the name is partially inspired by the hilarious SNL skit with Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken.
Runner amenities include tech race shirts, individual finisher medals, a souvenir cowbell, and live up-to-the-second finisher results. Half marathon runners will also receive a 13.1 cowbell car sticker and two in-race split times.
“The 5K run is a new edition to MO’ Cowbell and it gives us the chance to involve more runners at a wider range of skill levels,” Abbey said.
Registration for the half marathon is $75 and $40 for the 5K race from now until runner packet pickup.
Another new edition this year is the Health and Fitness ExMO’. It will feature about 30 health and fitness companies and will be held during runner packet pickup at Lindenwood University’s Hyland Arena on Friday, Oct. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 6.
There will also be a Post-Race Party and Awards in Frontier Park starting around 9:30 a.m. on Race Day. Come enjoy live music, refreshments, displays, and photos with the race mascot, Chuck the Cow!
Headlining sponsors for MO’ Cowbell are Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital and Progress West Healthcare Center, members of BJC HealthCare.
A portion of all proceeds will benefit Volunteers in Medicine. On Race Day, please bring shoe donations for the Shoeman Water Projects collection at the Runner’s Village.
