New Visitors Center Opens in Brussels IL

Community volunteers can help you plan your stay-cation in beautiful Calhoun County.  Brussels IL.  Lead by Gloria Marienau, of the Women’s Club of Brussels, has opened a visitors center in the historic Brussels Village Hall.  Calhoun is the northern most county in the St. Louis metropolitan area.  Situated between the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers, Calhoun offers visitors interesting archeology and historic sites, numerous orchards and a wildlife refuge as points of interest.

“We are very excited to offer this service to visitors exploring Calhoun County by car, motorcycle or bicycle, said Gloria Marienau, organizer and lead volunteer.  “We have so much to offer day-trippers given our proximity to Alton IL, Springfield IL, St. Charles MO and the St. Louis MO metro areas.

Calhoun has become a popular destination for tour groups or families out for a leisurely drive.  Visitors enjoy learning about the community’s history, stopping at a roadside produce stand and dining in one of the many family owned restaurants.

“We are delighted that this dedicated group of community volunteers has the pride and passion to commit their time to promote the history and charm of Calhoun County to visitors, said Jennifer White, President Calhoun Community Foundation.

The visitors center is located in the Brussels Village Hall, Main Street Brussels.  Volunteers will be on site to offer information, suggestions and guidance Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm.  Hours may be expanded based on visitor demand.
