StampedeCon 2012, the first national Big Data conference taking place in St. Louis, will launch on August 1, 2012. The conference will focus on the role of Big Data, its business value, potential cost savings, and Big Data use cases at Facebook, Nokia, Kraft Foods, Monsanto and more.
“Big Data represents a new frontier in IT, and it’s coming
at companies as a stampede of new data from mobile devices, social media, smart
city infrastructure, web applications and more,” said Gary Stiehr, StampedeCon
organizer and founder of STLhpc.net. “The
purpose of StampedeCon is to highlight the what, why and how of Big Data in a
day’s worth of action-focused presentations.”
StampedeCon features presentations benefiting both seasoned IT professionals
and those starting with Hadoop, Big Data or Data Science. The August 1st
agenda includes nine speakers, featuring the following:
Making your Analytics Investment Pay Off
Bill Eldredge (Sr.
Product Manager, Nokia)
Eldredge will discuss how a single “Big Data” project is expected to save
millions by creating a symbiotic relationship between traditional relational
database management system storage and newer Hadoop cluster.
Listening for Insights: The Power of Social Media Listening
Frank Cotignola (Consumer
Insights Manager, Kraft Foods)
Cotignola will demonstrate how to research important brand topics, provide
in-depth insights to new product development, segment analysis and broader
topics companies might not previously have had the funds to research.
HBase Backups
Pritam Damania (Software
Engineer, Facebook)
This talk will cover various options available, out of the box backup solutions,
their drawbacks and what companies are doing to make backup and recovery
efficient. In particular it will cover what Facebook has done to improve
performance of backup and recovery processes with minimal impact to its production
cluster.
