Colleen White to Receive “Influential Woman” Honors at Kansas City Business Magazine Event
Kansas City, MO - - - Colleen White, president of Strategic Workplace Solutions, Inc., has been selected as an “Influential Woman” Honoree by the Kansas City Business Magazine as profiled in the publication’s March issue. An independent panel of judges, including area business and civic leaders, selected Colleen as one of the 2012 awardees. The program honors outstanding female Kansas City leaders in the entrepreneurial, corporate, non-profit and creative communities. Nominees were selected based on their professional accomplishments, philanthropic endeavors and commitment to mentoring.
“I am honored my efforts and successes in business, and for women, are being acknowledged with this award” Colleen stated. “I feel privileged to be considered among this elite group of strong and dynamic women.”
White will receive her award at the publication’s Sixth Annual “Influential Women” Recognition Reception today at the National World War I Museum.
In the last 6 months, White also received the National “Crystal Vision Award” from the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), which recognized her outstanding achievements in advancing the role of women in construction; the Missouri Governor’s “Award of Distinction” for her work serving as a role model and advocating for the economic advancement of women in Missouri, and the Kansas City Business Journal’s “Women Who Mean Business Award”, recognizing her for the challenges she faced and overcame, her outstanding business accomplishments, her contributions to the community and her efforts to improve the climate for women in business.
White is president and founder of Strategic Workplace Solutions, Inc., a labor law compliance risk management company. She assists business owners in being proactive and preventive in the compliance field, thus avoiding expensive fines and court actions. White oversaw compliance at the Truman Sports Complex Renovation Project, and drafted a new compliance program for Jackson County, MO. She focuses the majority of her work in the construction industry, a field she loves passionately. White is currently overseeing compliance on the Commonwealth Construction Projects for the Kansas City Planned Industrial Expansion Authority.

About Colleen White
Colleen White is president and founder of Strategic Workplace Solutions, Inc. She derives her extensive experience from her 12 years as Director of the State of Missouri’s Division of Labor Standards, where she served as the first woman ever named to that position. She directly administered and enforced all prevailing wage, child labor and mine safety laws, and oversaw mine training, workplace safety consultation, and other wage and hour law programs. Additionally, she served as Business Manager of a construction trade union in Kansas City, becoming the first female delegate to a Building & Construction Trades Council in the U.S. She was appointed to serve as Director of Safety and Health for the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades in Washington D.C., where she became the first woman department director of an international construction union. She holds a degree in Education from the University of Kansas, and one in Labor Studies from Antioch University. Colleen also serves as a labor arbitrator, where her experience provides a level of neutrality that allows her to see all sides and concerns.
Currently active in the Labor Management Council of Greater Kansas City’s Construction Industry Committee, Colleen provides input on compliance issues for construction. She recently completed overseeing all labor law compliance for the Jackson County Truman Sports Complex Renovation Project, where she assisted more than 300 contractors to ensure their compliance requirements were met. She is currently overseeing compliance on the Commonwealth Construction Projects for the Kansas City Planned Industrial Expansion Authority, and assisting numerous subcontractors with their compliance requirements.
Colleen also provides expert observations on a wide range of labor law compliance and workplace issues to print and electronic media nationwide.
