October 12, 2012, ST. LOUIS -- Saint Louis University Hospital was a big winner at the 17th annual Emergency Nurses Association awards banquet October 10 as the organization’s St. Louis Chapter awarded SLU Hospital five awards, including Emergency Nurse of the Year and ER Rookie Nurse of the Year.
Jeff Halverson, RN, was named Nurse of the Year and according to Helen Sandkuhl, RN, director of emergency services at Saint Louis University Hospital, he is well deserving of the recognition.
“There is no such thing as ‘Not my patient, not my room’ when it comes to Jeff,” says Sandkuhl. “He is a great, compassionate nurse who loves what he does … helping people.”
In addition, Phillip Sowa, SLU Hospital chief executive officer and Dawn Anuszkiewicz, SLU Hospital chief operating officer, were both recipients of the ENA’s Special Leadership Award, Ryan Fonner, RN, was winner of the ER Rookie Nurse of the year Award and Sandkuhl earned special recognition with a thank you from a special patient.
