Book Sales to Support SAGE Metro-St. Louis

It isn’t often that a fit is so perfect.  A book about middle age that helps to generate money for a group that supports programs for the elderly, specifically members of the LGBT community.  Walrus Publishing has teamed up with SAGE Metro St. Louis to donate 10% of the sales from the Walrus website for its latest release Halfway There.  “This is just a great way to give back to the community.  Halfway There looks at what life is like to be lesbian and middle-aged.  Why not use sales to support a group that supports that same group of people?” says Lisa Miller the publisher at Walrus Publishing.

SAGE Metro-St. Louis offers so much.  Their services include support groups, information and referral, and social/educational programs.  Their advocacy work includes the LGBT Health Access Project and LGBT Cultural Competency Training.  They are working to ensure “all older adults have equal access to safe and welcoming services at home and in the community.”  Sherrill Wayland, the Executive Director, says that additional funding from the donation will help support the programs and advocacy that SAGE provides and promote the work SAGE does for the older adults in the LGBT community.  “SAGE is thrilled by this generous gift of creative financial support. We encourage everyone to purchase the book and support SAGE programs and community outreach.”

The connection between Halfway There and SAGE is easy to see.  In Halfway There a middle-aged lesbian takes a look at her life-where she’s been and what it all means now.  It is a quick read of about 100 pages.  Ten short stories in all invite readers of a certain age to laugh with Aubrie Elliot as she reminisces about past loves, her changing body, her family life, and finally being from St. Louis.  Halfway There is available from the Walrus Bookstore at www.walruspublishing.com/bookstore/halfway-there/.  Ten percent of the purchase price will be donated to SAGE Metro St. Louis for all sales from the Walrus Bookstore.  More information about SAGE can be found at www.sagemetrostl.org or by calling Sherrill Wayland at 314-772-5887.
