Scott Rhein: Hello Jeff, Thank You for taking my questions. I know the Blues have a lot of injures this season. I feel that the team is playing with a lot of heart. They are not winning but they are trying. My question is, if everyone was healthy for the Blues, what would be the lines? Who do you like so far this season? Who do you think we would trade and who would stay? Thank You for your time.
Scott
Jeff Gordon: The lines always change so it's tough to project. We saw some the potential earlier this year, briefly.
Some ideas:
McClement need to be the No. 4 center, plus a penalty killer. I like Cam on the energy line. Stastny too.
Berglund is a legit No. 1 center. I'd pair him with David Perron and let him put his strength to work.
McDonald is a great No. 2 center. Why not have him with Tkachuk and Kariya and mix speed and power on an old-guy line?
Backes is making a case to play power forward on a top line.
With Crombeen playing well, maybe he could play on the third line with Steen and Oshie.
Just some thoughts off the top of the head . . .
Brett G.: In your opinion, if nothing changes to the current roster, (besides signed bench depth or by chance some crazy FA signing or trade) what's the 1-9 look like? And, same for the rotation... W/O nothing new done?...
Also, is Barton destined for Memphis automatically? With a strong spring does he make the big league club with a chance to start? I think the kid adds the speed necessary to be a game changer. Not much team speed right now.....
Jeff Gordon: You're right about speed, but Brian isn't much of a base stealer:
I would do this:
1 - Rasmus, CF
2- Ludwick, LF
3- Albert, 1B
4/5 Ankiel, RF
4/5 Glaus, 3B (depending on pitcher)
6- Molina, C
7- Greene, SS
8- Pitcher (Tony's rules)
9- Kennedy, 2B
Rotation:
Wainwright, Lohse, Wellemeyer, McClellan, Pineiro, Carpenter, Boggs
ronjon1702: Should the media start lobbying the city, county and state now to get the funds necessary for the new rams stadium. I was thinking of running for mayor to get this done. Do you know when slay's term is up?
Jeff Gordon: The next owner will have to invest heavily in the next stadium to make it happen. Don't expect any government anywhere doing what happened here with the dome.
beast39: I've been hearing more and more that the Rams will trade down in the draft and get a mlb. If they do trade down I think they should get Maualuga. If Rex Ryan is our coach next year do you think the defense will change to a 3-4. If they do, will chris long play olb? Just some wishful thinking.
Jeff Gordon: The personnel here could fit the 3-4 IF the team beefs up the LB corps. The Rams do believe their is depth at OT in this draft, so the team could conceivably address that need with a later first-round pick.
Griff21: Berglund ranks as one of the top rookies this year, whats his chances of wining rookie of the year?
Jeff Gordon: With Brassard out for the year now, those chances went up. Also, Berglund will benefit when the other skill guys return to action. The offense will pick up dramatically.
That is it for this week -- that's for all the great questions and comments!
Have a good holiday, folks. Enjoy your time with your family.
