| mmbbeerrtt: Is there going to be an exit eastbound on 40 east of Hampton onto Oakland? Is that the new Oakland exit? Thanks |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Yes. At the Hampton interchange when you are eastbound on I-64 you will have an extra exit for Oakland Ave. This Oakland exit will take you to Oakland just east of Hampton Avenue and will be a good option for people heading to the Community College, Science Center, SLUH and other locations along Oakland east of Hampton.

| AnnieRuether: How is the Big Bend overpass coming along? Any chance it'll open early? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: There is a chance. We are hoping to open it in early November. The scheduled deadline for Big Bend is the end of November. Let's get this rain to stop and we can make it early!
Linda Wilson |
|
Mark: Hello:
Thanks for continuing these chats. Will the Big Bend bridge open prior to the mainline opening? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Yes. See previous answer on Big Bend.
Linda Wilson |
|
| SchwaSTL: As rainy as it's been lately (and appears to be in the near future), do you have things you can still do during the rain, or does that shut everything down because of the stage you're at? At what point do you need X number of dry days to be able to hit your goal date? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: There are things we can do in the rain depending on how hard it is raining. Crews have been doing tree planting and other similar work on the light rain days. The rainy days certainly aren't helping. We have a deadline of December 31 to open the highway, but we are hoping to open sooner than that. The date of the opening very much depends on how many days of rain we get.
Linda Wilson |
|
| Marc: I understand the project is ahead of schedule. Does that mean the opening is ahead of schedule too? If so, what day are we talking? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: The deadline is still December 31. We hope to be ready to announce the exact date in early November.
Linda Wilson |
|
shahn51759: To Dan and Team:
Just want to say you and your entire team have done a PHENOMENAL job on this project! Well done.....and much appreciated!
Regards,
Susan |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: We appreciate it very much and love sharing this comments with the entire contractor/MoDOT team.
Linda Wilson |
|
Jim: Don and/or Linda
my questions is simple: when will the east end reopen?
I live off Clayton Rd near McKnight and have been affected by both ends of the project. While it has been challenging at times, I compliment everyone involved as it has gone far more smoothly than expected. This plan which seemed ludicrous at the time now seems ingenious and is far better than dragging this project out for 6-8 years.
Thank you.
ps We are a beneficiary of the sound walls. They work!! |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Thanks very much for your comments. We hope to announce the exact date of the opening in early November.
Linda Wilson |
|
| delpatstl: What are the next major milestones and dates leading up to the re-opening of highway 40? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: The next major milestones including opening the Hanley/Eager intersection at the end of October, opening the Big Bend bridge sometime in November and then opening the east half no later than Dec 31. The major work left includes ramp, shoulder and barrier pavement; signing, striping, signals, guardrail installation; staining all the walls and painting the bridge steel; and doing final grading seeding and tree planting. It's a lot left. Did I mention we really need it to stop raining.
Linda Wilson |
|
| CJBlues82: Will there be a speed limit on the new highway 40? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Yes. The speed limit will be 60 mph. All interstates in the urban area of St. Louis are 60 mph.
Linda Wilson |
|
| haybeav: Any update as to when the McCausland will go back to two lanes each way? I read last week you thought it was going to be the end of this week. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Southbound lanes of McCausland have opened to two lanes. The northbound lanes are still planned for the end of this week, weather depending.
Linda Wilson |
|
| Nick Reinhardt: Can someone explain why the stop lights at Big Bend and Skinker (going north-south and MUCH less congestion) are on the same 30 second timer as the east-west traffic at Forest Park Parkway? Forest Park Parkway is the closest east-west option next to highway 40 for traffic in and out of the city to clayton, 170, etc. The Parkway has been HORRIBLE from 3-7pm every weekday for months because of this. From Bally's in Clayton to around Union it is stop and go and just terrible. Allow traffic to flow for at least a minute or 90 seconds east-west on these lights and there would be much less headaches. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: I will share this with the City and County who are responsible for the signal timing on the Parkway. I know the engineers have worked to balance and time the signals.
Linda Wilson |
|
| Tom: First...thank you for all the hard work...this will be a great improvement for our city! I do have a question though...when the project first started there were various configurations proposed for the Hampton/Oakland/Clayon road intersections a the I-64 Hampton exit. It looks like when you are traveling north on Hampton we will still have a light at Berthold followed immediately by a light at Clayton followed immediately by a light at Oakland. All this before we can get on I-64. Is this the final configuration? I was hoping it would be fixed by this project. Thank you. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: yes. This is the final arrangement. We have worked with the City of St. Louis who owns Hampton and all of these intersections and we left this area as it was. The I-64 project basically starts at the Oakland intersection and ends at the Wells intersection. The city is working to make sure the signal timing on Hampton approaching and leaving I-64 will flow together when the highway reopens.

Bill Hendrickson: Thanks for taking on this project you guys have done a great job. My questions are as follows.
1. Will you be repaving and of the streets that have taken a hit by the closure; ie, Clayton, Ballas, Olive.... I know Ballas has been riddled with potholes for years now.
2. Will Clayton Rd. west of Spoede go back to the old lanes to accommodate walkers and biker safety? I like the suicide lane myself.
3. The line striping on 40/64 at McKnight in the fast lane is very tricky, at one point it merged the 2 lanes together or at least that's what it looked like. When will these lines be corrected.
4. Brentwood and 40 exit in the left turn lane heading south the wall is a huge blind spot. Do yo recommend just waiting for the light to turn green to go over to Eager. I have seen several cars fronts almost be taken off.
5. Do you guys pay a lot of attention to the "Farmers Almanac" for the weather of upcoming seasons? If so I am sure yo know that this winter is forecasted to be one of the coldest in years. How does this affect your progress and your workers?
6. YOU MAY WANT TO POST THIS ANSWER AT THE TOP OF THE CHAT-
WHEN WILL THIS PROJECT BE COMPLETED?After you are done how long to be really done; planting trees, removing all equipment, fixing lights, repaving side roads.....
Thanks again for all you do. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: This is a lot of questions. 1. Some of these streets you mentioned are county's and some are MoDOTs. The County is resurfacing Clayton next year. MoDOT will be doing spot work on roads as needed. 2. Clayton Road will be given back to the cities of Ladue and Frontenac within their respective cities. These cities will make the decision on what they will do with the striping.3. The striping on eastbound I-64 as you approach McKnight is temporary striping because the highway currently ends at I-170. The lanes won't shift over once we reopen the highway. 4. At the intersection of the exit ramp to Brentwood, you should wait for the light to change. The stopping sight distance at a signalized intersection is correct there, but to make it yielding right on red it is hard to see a long way. 5. The contractor consults multiple weather forecasting services as they plan their schedule. Our goal is to get this highway open before the end of the year and the heart of winter. 6. To your last question, the contractor does have until July 31, 2010 to finish every detail. They are hoping to finish as much as possible before we open the road. MoDOT will be doing punchlists with them in 2010 and making them correct and items necessary. The contractor is responsible for any repairs until MoDOT is satisfied and accepts ownership of the new road from the contractor. That will happen sometime in 2010.

| Bill Steves: Cars turning northbound onto Kingshighway from 40/64 now have a dedicated lane so they don't need to stop or yield. However, the single solid white line doesn't seem to be doing its job. Cars from 40/64 turning northbound frequently stop to check for traffic coming from the south on Kingshighway. In addition, cars already on Kingshighway frequently cross this solid line, not realizing that it's a dedicated lane for cars turning onto Kingshighway (I've seen more than a few Metro buses cross this line dangerously close to cars turning onto Kingshighway). Does your team have any plans to better indicate that this lane is a dedicated lane -- perhaps a double line or a thicker white line? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Double lines don't do any more. The real issue is driver behavior and enforcement. The striping on Kingshighway is finished.
Linda Wilson |
|
| cdawg63026: Will there be any future changes to the Downtown ramps so East bound traffic can connect to the other Interstates (70/55/44)? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: No. The I-64 project stops at Kingshighway. The MO end of the Poplar Street Bridge has no plans for any changes. Given the tight space and the number of ramps there now, there are no plans to add any more connections at that interchange.
Linda Wilson |
|
Doug Barth: Understanding that weather is an unknown element and factoring in x-amount of days for rain/snow delay, can you give a fair approximation of when the new stretch will open? Very anxious to say goodbye to Forest Park Parkway.
Thanks!
Doug B. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: No later than Dec 31. We hope to announce an exact date in November, but rain is making it tough to pinpoint an exact date yet.
Linda Wilson |
|
| Speed Racer: What is a realistic date for the highway to open? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Watch for an announcement in November. Too soon to say.
Linda Wilson |
|
| JHG: Curiously, will this new segment of I-64 feature more overhead lighting on the medians and well-lit signage? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: The only place MoDOT has continuous highway lighting is within the city limits of St. Louis. Otherwise, all interstates in Missouri have lights at the ramps and interchanges.
Linda Wilson |
|
| sara: When will Big Bend re-open? I live on one of the side streets in Richmond Heights and I am sick of people hitting my car. I've been side-swiped once and lost 2 mirrors, and I know other neighbors who have been hit too. Yes, there is parking on both sides of the street. Yes, the street is probably too narrow for that, but we have no other options. The speed traps during the day were fine, but the real problem is drunk people barreling down the street playing bumper cars in the middle of the night. Please re-open Big Bend soon and restore our formerly peaceful quiet street. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: The contractor has until the end of November, but they are hoping for early in November, depending on the weather. Make it stop raining, please.
Linda Wilson |
|
| Greg Murphy: I live off of Eager Road just west of Brentwood Blvd. There are many construction materials and vehicles between Eager Road and I-64. Is there a plan for cleanup of all materials (in this area and others) once the project is finished? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: The contractor will clean up all materials on state property after the project is complete.
Linda Wilson |
|
| True Man: When the Highway 40 reconstruction is complete, will the I-70 Express Lanes go back to normal, that is, eastbound AM and westbound PM? Thanks, |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: MoDOT engineers are monitoring the volumes and travel times on the reversible lanes twice a month and are setting the direction based on that information. We will continue to do this after I-64. The lanes will be set for the direction that needs it the most based on volumes and travel times.
Linda Wilson |
|
jim.kozlowski: I don't have a question. My coment is, from what I have been following over the last two years, this was a successful job. The company and workers deserve all the credit and bonuses they get. I for one have completely avoided highway 40 completely during the construction.
If no one says it, let me be one of the first. Thank you, Good job. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Thanks. We appreciate hearing it.
Linda Wilson |
|
Jim: Hi,
It looks like work on the Big Bend overpass is about complete. Expected opening? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Hopefully early in November
Linda Wilson |
|
| the walkers: Once I64 reopens, will there again be parking on the north side of Clayton Avenue which runs along Jefferson Lake in Forest Park? Parking on both sides of the street along that stretch used to be allowed but was restricted to only the south side when the highway work started. Thank you. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: I don't know. I will check with the park and the City.
Linda Wilson |
|
| TRiles: I am very concerned about the merge from Highway 40 West on to I-170 North. This ramp feels both dangerous (as drivers entering from the East will be zipping on to the Northbound lane) as well as a possible cause for major bottlenecking. Any thoughts on this? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Each direction has its own lane, so as long as people aren't zig zagging from lane to lane it will work fine. One lane will enter northbound I-170 from the east, one from the west, and one coming from Eager to the south. Those three lanes should fit into the three lanes of I-170 just fine.
Dan |
|
| better4u: I've read many of the earlier chat transcripts and realize that you won't provide any timeline for the re-opening of the eastern half of the project for several more weeks. However, what is the single most important thing remaining to be done before the highway is completed? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: We still have a few thousand feet of barrier (median and shoulder) to complete before we can open the mainline, so that is probably the biggest obstacle. We also want to have as much of the permanent striping finished before we open since you can't do that sort of work on wet pavement or if it's too cold. We will also try to compete as much as we can of the final grading and landscaping so we don't need too many lane closures in 2010. If this recent wet weather continues all that could be at risk.
Dan |
|
| Melissa: I was just wondering if they were going to hold any kind of ribbion cutting as they did last time allowing people to walk, run or ride their bikes on the new highway? If so and if the date has already been set up - when might that day be? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: The celebration event will happen on the Sunday before we open the highway to traffic. So as soon as we know when that will happen we will be able to announce when you'll be able to come out for the run/bike/walk event.
Dan |
|
Jeff: Do you know if the old road markings just west of McKnight on Eastbound 64 can be removed? The old and new markings are still very visible just as the road curves just before McKnight and is very confusing. A semi and two vehicles almost collided yesterday morning during rush hour as the semi followed the old lane markings and came into someone elses lane.
Thanks |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: The striping will not be final until we open the road. I will have the contractor check on the striping that's out there. I drove through their myself today and you can see new markings as well as the old markings. Rain always makes this situation worse. I'm not sure there is anything we can do except warn drivers to be cautious, slow down and really pay attention to the lanes.
Linda Wilson |
|
| Bill: Will you be hosting another festival to celebrate the re-opening of the highway? Will there be another cycling time-trial hosted by Big Shark bicycle Company? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Yes and Yes. I am working with Big Shark on a time trial. We will have opening festivities on a Sunday. There will be a 5K pre-registered run and a pre-registered cycling time trial from 8-10 a.m. Then the road will be open for the general public to walk or bike around on from Noon to 4 p.m. The official ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 3 p.m. Watch for more details on this once we are able to announce the date. Registration for the 5K and cycling event will not happen until after we announce the date.

|
| i write too: I love the wider Kingshighway bridge and the two traffic lanes entering and leaving the highway, but what would you point out as the biggest improvement area on this particular stretch of highway when work is completed? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: I would point to two things that have made a big difference. The biggest is the I-170 interchange. If we had built that and quit there it would have made a huge improvement in the way traffic moved through that area. The second is the elimination of the cloverleaf interchanges at Lindbergh, Hampton, and Kingshighway. Those tight loop ramps forced entering and exiting traffic to weave across the same 100 feet of pavement to get on and off the highway. At Hampton you literally had a 90 degree right hand turn to exit I-64 to go north into Forest Park. Cloverleafs cause traffic to back up on the mainline which causes accidents and congestion even miles away from the source of the problem. Those two updates made the biggest difference in my opinion.

| roenick99: I think you guys should raffle off for charity the opportunity to be the first official car to hit the new section of highway 40. Is this possible? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: No this is not possible. The road will open sometime in the early morning hours before a Monday morning rush. We will be doing a charity event with our public opening ceremony. We are working with Operation FoodSearch to do a canned food drive with the people who come out to walk around on the highway the Sunday before we open it to traffic on Monday morning.

|
stevecollins: First, congratulations on your great work in completing the project on time and within budget. I use the section from I-270 and I-170 and it is GREAT! Thank you! I have two questions:
Are any bike or hiking trails included in the project either along the route or across the route? If yes, where?
Also, was any provision make for future Metrolink routes along or across the route? If yes, where?
Steve Collins |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Their our sidewalks on the cross streets. There are ped/cycling trails in Forest Park that cross under Hampton and under I-64 just east of the Science Center. Otherwise, our property is very tight along the project and there was not any room left over to do trails parallel to the interstate.
Back in 1996-1997, a joint study on transportation was done by MoDOT, Metro and the East-West Gateway Council of Governments to determine what road and transit improvements should be planned for the I-64 corridor. The decision was made to not put transit down the I-64 corridor. MetroLink was built along Forest Park Parkway instead. The future plan is to take MetroLink from Clayton west to WestPort Plaza area along Page Avenue and then across I-270 and through the valley to Chesterfield. This line is not funded.

mannie416: The subtitle for this chat says "Ask Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson about the last few weeks of work."
My question is in regards to what this indicates. Will the highway be reopening in November? Do you have a general idea of when it will reopen?
Any insight into this would be awesome! Thanks and I appreciate you taking the time to field these questions.
Mark |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: this is the number one question and unfortunately we don't have a date yet. We won't be announcing any date until November.
Linda Wilson |
|
| chuck rogers: I know it's not part of 40, --- Any chance the I-70 reversible lanes will stay eastbound only after the 40 project is fininshed? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: See previous answer on this. The direction of the reversibles is not pre-set or determined by I-64. The engineers monitor this constantly and set the direction based on the demand by monitoring volumes and travel times. Once the MLK bridge work is completed by IDOT on Oct 23, the reversible lanes will be eastbound only all the time again until the numbers indicate we should change it.
Linda Wilson |
|
| Ann Smythe: What happened to the lanes on the now open section of E Hwy 40 around Mcknight? It appears someone tried to restripe. But the new and old stripes don't line up and both are very visible so it is difficult to know which is the correct lane. I'm surprised it hasn't caused an accident yet. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: We're grinding and taping the permanent stripes into the pavement. We have to arrange traffic so that we have three through lanes plus an exit lane to I-170 and Brentwood that begins just east of McCutcheon. The problem is that we have to do this now, before we open the east half and before it gets too cold for the stripes to stick to the pavement. So for now, some of the temporary stripes that route everyone to the flyover ramp and the Brentwood exit can still be seen.
Dan |
|
| Jimbo Jones: Will the Watson exit from eastbound 44 open soon? Based on the traffic patterns we've seen from the highway closure, this is an unnecessary inconvenience for people in the area who would otherwise be uneffected by I-64. Surely businesses are losing out as well. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: In 2010, MoDOT will have a contract to resurface I-44 from I-270 to I-55. This work will start in March and be completed by the fall. Once the road is resurfaced, MoDOT will restripe I-44 back to four lanes in each direction. We will also then restripe the southbound I-270 to eastbound I-44 back to a single lane exit and then reopen the eastbound I-44 exit to Watson. This all has to happen in this order of work to make it work safely for traffic. So the Watson ramp will reopen but it won't be until fall 2010.
Linda Wilson |
|
| JHG: Curiously, will this new segment of I-64 feature more overhead lighting on the medians and well-lit signage? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: There is median lighting in the St Louis City section, but only interchange lighting in the St Louis County section. All the signs will be new and more reflective as well, so visibility will be much better.
Dan |
|
| eols118: Are there any plans to improve the section of I-64 at Mason? It bogs down now with traffic everyday. With the new 64 opening, I have a feeling Mason will just move the problem down the road a few miles. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: No. MoDOT has no plans to widen I-64 west of I-270. The section of I-64 from I-270 to Route K in O'Fallon is the fastest growing segment for traffic volumes. There are no plans for any road changes on this section and nothing funded for the future.
Linda Wilson
|
|
| Cheri: Eastbound highway 40/64 is currently 2 lanes at the intersection of 270. Are there plans to increase the number of lanes in this area once the highway reopens? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: We will be restriping eastbound I-64 from Mason to I-270 sometime in the next month. The lanes will be changed to two straight lanes, one straight lane that also splits to the northbound I-270 exit and one lane dedicated for southbound I-270.
Linda Wilson |

Miguel: Great work, everyone-- truly a model for other cities!
I recall reading of specific guidelines for putting up sound barrier walls- I wonder if there was/is any consideration to using them in park areas near the highway, specifically such as Turtle Park? Thanks |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Yes. The Park chose not to have sound walls on the areas that did qualify. They wanted the park to be open and visible and we are putting in a nice fence instead. The benefitted property owner, in this case the Park, does have the right to say no they don't want a wall.
Linda Wilson |
|
| Miguel Paniagua: What are the plans (if any) to improve the jumbled and confusing intersection at Skinker, Clayton, McCausland, and Oakland (AKA the Amoco Sign area)? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: This intersection is owned by the City. I don't know of any plans to change this intersection. It is not a part of the I-64 project. When the highway reopens, this intersection will be the same as it always was.
Linda Wilson |
|
| sam: Has there been any thought to making changes on Meridian (behind Best Buy) so that traffic can flow any better? The two stop signs make traffic move at a crawl, and during peak times, I often miss the green light from Hanley or Dale since Meridan backs all the way through the intersection. I understand the need for garage traffic to have access to Meridian, but two stops in that small stretch seem like overkill. Now that the north (west bound) traffic is reduced to one lane, backups in both directions seem endless. Any possible relief?? Thanks, and congratulations on a tremendous job with the project so far! |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: The Hanley/Eager connection will reopen by October 29th if all goes well, so just hang in there a bit longer. As you say, the stop signs are necessary to give garage traffic a chance to get in or out of the garage. If you don't give those drivers a chance they'll start to take chances and force their way into traffic, which means accidents. We realize that Meridian isn't the ideal situation but it's better than no access to Hanley and Eager at all, which was our only other option.
Dan |
|
| DividebyZero: I think the pavement deterioration between Arsenal and Hampton that's on the portable sign is spreading east. The middle lane for basically all of mile 286 is rutted and cracked. Is there an earlier fix scheduled for this stretch before the entire I-44 between I-55 and I-270 is repaved? Obviously, the condition will get worse as we move into fall and winter. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: I will have our maintenance crews check this location on I-44. We do have plans to resurface all of I-44 in 2010. The work will be done at night starting in March and complete by next fall. We cannot do this work until after I-64 opens and asphalt work really can't start any earlier than March due to temperatures. We will do our best to patch it and hold it together until then.
Linda Wilson |
|
| Steve: So after 40 re-opens how long until 44 gets restriped? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: See previous answer on this one. resurfacing March to fall and restriping by fall 2010.
Linda Wilson |

EJetson: My question is about the reversible lanes on Highway 70.
This week, the reversible lanes have been open westbound in the mornings and eastbound in the afternoons. This makes no sense. I have been driving downtown to work from St. Charles for 20 years and the ONLY time that it would make sense is if there is an accident on 70 somewhere alongside the reversible lanes. In the days before the reconstruction of the reversible lanes a few years ago, they were ALWAYS open eastbound in the mornings and westbound in the afternoons. This made perfect sense and it eased traffic
tremendously. Having them open in the opposite directions only makes traffic much worse eastbound in the mornings and in BOTH directions in the afternoons.
I certainly hope that when the highway 40 project is completed, that we will go back to common sense and be able to make use of the reversible lanes in the way that they were intended. For now, they're basically useless. |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: The reversibles are westbound in the a.m. this week and next while the MLK bridge is closed. it is an effort to help get traffic over the PSB and flowing westbound more easily. The MLK work by IDOT is scheduled to reopen that bridge the end of next week and then the reversibles will be eastbound all the time. We monitor the volumes and travel times to set the direction based on this data.

|
| Paul Allen: The improvements made to the surface streets to ease congestion have been great, i.e. traffic lights instead of stop signs, and timed lights on Manchester, Clayton Road, and Ladue Road. Are all of these going to be returned to their original configuration? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Clayton and Ladue will be determined by the cities of Frontenac and Ladue within those cities. MoDOT handles the bigger roads and we will be keeping the signal timing on most of those pretty much the way it has been through the project. some minor adjustments may be made, but for the most part it will stay as is.
Linda wilson |
|
| dralexp: Have you guys thought about beginning the return to normal configuration for Hwy. 44 & 70 now by removing the extra lanes? After the problems you had with the weather and striping 2 years ago, maybe a head-start before real cold weather would be beneficial? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: I-70 and I-44 will not be changed back until 2010. Each will have contracts that start in march with the work done at night only. These two roads will not be completed and restriped back until fall 2010.
Linda Wilson |
|
| dogtownd: How close are the Clayton Ave and Big Bend bridges to being completed? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Big Bend should reopen in early November, while Clayton should reopen soon after that.
Dan |
|
| Tom: When will the Clayton Ave overpass re-open? It looks as though there is still a lot of work to be done. Thank you for the great work! |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: There's not that much. We began the demolition of the street and sidewalks on the south side today, and we still need to backfill the approaches and complete barriers. It should be completed in about about a month.
Dan |
|
| chris: Will any of the collector distributor roads open prior to the mainline or vice-versa? |
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Nope. They will all open at the same time.
Dan |
