Joe: Sorry for my choice of words, I understand that bicycles & cars don't mix, the heart of my question is Why can't there be made provision for a bicycle or jogging road along an interstate? It's a huge corridor that is created and only being used by one form of transportation; if bicycles, joggers, rollerbladers had access, it would cut auto traffic, wear & tear on pavements, emissions, etc. Concrete barriers, fencing, etc could be engineered to keep them separated.
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: We did look at putting a separated path, but we just didn't have the room. There are sections where it looks like there might be enough room, but it is really not wide enough with the walls, bridges, interchanges, etc. We understand your ideas and desires, but interstate highways are really not good safe places to mix 60+mph traffic close to walkers.

gregl: Looking at the project webcam, on the north side of the McCausland overpass, it appears some type of posts were put up on Monday and Tuesday of this week. I don't think I've seen anything similar on any other overpass you've buit. What are they for?
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: These posts are for the soundwall. In some cases the soundwall is on the edge of the pavement and crosses over bridges and in other places the soundwalls are built at the edge of state property. This is a case where the soundwall for the houses on the north side of the highway runs along the side of the bridge.

Mark: Hello Linda and Dan:

What is the tentative completion for the rebuilding of McCausland Ave (the road itself, not the highway overpass)?

Thank you.
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: I believe we are scheduled to flip traffic onto the new pavement on the west side of the street early next month and then demo and repave the east side. I would imagine you'll be back to four lanes by October.

Patrick: Hi! Are there any updates to the expected reopening date for 64 (between Kingshighway and 170, of course)?

Thank you!

-Patrick
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: By contract they have to reopen the lanes from Kingshighway to I-170 by December 31, 2009. We do not have any other date than that at this point. We are on schedule to be done by then, but it is too soon to predict an earlier date. We have a ton of work left to do including, major work at the I-170 interchange, Big Bend interchange, paving, median walls, etc. Like last year, we will probably give a couple of weeks notice of the exact date for the opening.

STLfella: Looking at the webcam of where 64 and 170 meet confuses me. Specifically, how are 4 lanes in each direction going to fit? If seems the fly over ramp from SB 270 is in the way. I looked on the MODOT website and did not see a drawing. Can this be found anywhere?

Thanks for the chats and good job on the project!
Linda Wilson, Todd Waelterman and David Wrone: Right now we have two lanes on the ramps, but when we reopen each ramp will only have one lane on it. There are only three lanes on I-170 so that controls how many lanes we can flow into it. So for example from I-64, you will have one lane on eastbound 64 and one lane from westbound 64 and one lane from Eager Road all going to northbound I-170. That will make the three lanes of northbound I-170. On southbound I-170, you will have one lane exiting to Eager, one lane to westbound 64 and one lane to eastbound 64.

Hope that makes more sense. There is a plan sheet on the I-64 website under project information if you want to look at that.
