COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou’s practice on Saturday was its last until Tuesday afternoon, but coach Gary Pinkel sounded as if he’ll be spending plenty of time fretting over what still needs to be done before the Tigers open the 2009 season against Illinois on Sept. 5 at the Edward Jones Dome.
Only 14 days left. Exciting as that thought must be to Pinkel, it also sounded like a lament.
“If you’re in my line of work,” he said. “I guarantee you you’re conscious of it as the days tick down.”
Perhaps that’s no more so than this time any season, but MU faces a fairly instant read of to what degree it’s reloading and to what degree rebuilding after the departures of 23 seniors and sophomore superstate Jeremy Maclin.
MU will finalize its depth chart for the opener by next Friday, Pinkel said.
I’m definitely just pumped for the season to start. I know I got tickets to all the MU games at that http://comparesupreme.com website. I think the Tigers are a bit better than people expect. I expect 8 or 9 wins.
