Tigers’ six-year wait ends at 5:20 p.m.; Kansas, of course, gets booed

COLUMBIA, MO — A six-year wait for the Missouri basketball program ended at 5:20 p.m. Sunday, when CBS flashed the Tigers’ spot in the NCAA Tournament. Mizzou, the No. 3 seed in the West, will face No. 14 Cornell (21-9) on Friday in Boise, Idaho.

The Truman Room at Mizzou Arena erupted at the announcement, and the players exchanged hugs, handshakes and high-fives. Interestingly, if the Tigers win their first-round game, they could face Marquette in the second round. Marquette beat the Tigers in overtime in 2003 — MU’s last NCAA appearance.

By the way, Kansas was booed lustily when its No. 3 seed in the Midwest was announced, and the Jayhawks’ foe — North Dakota State — received a loud ovation.

More to come. . .

To those who quote the regular season, I kept hearing the committee kept talking about how you did down the road more than what you did early. If that’s the case then losing at A&M may have hurt. Oklahoma losing at Mizzou didn’t seem to hurt them though.

    It makes me wonder.
