Jon Stewart

A Time Magazine online poll finds that Jon Stewart is now the nation’s most-trusted newscaster, topping Brian Williams, Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric.

Time asked: Now that Walter Cronkite has passed on, who is America’s most trusted newscaster?

The results:

  • Jon Stewart, 44 percent
  • Brian Williams, 29 percent
  • Charlie Gibson, 19 percent
  • Katie Couric, 7 percent

Time has state-by-state results.  Stewart garnered 39 percent of the vote in both Missouri and Illinois.

In Missouri: Stewart (39 percent), Gibson (33 percent), Williams (23 percent), Couric (6 percent).

In Illinois: Stewart (39 percent), Williams (34 percent), Gibson (14 percent), Couric (8 percent).

What’s up with the big bistate split on Gibson-Williams?  Does that say anything about the residents of Missouri and Illinois?

Time acknowledges that its poll is non-scientific and reflects the opinion of only those who choose to participate. In this poll, 9,409 participated.

Just because people say they trust him doesn’t mean he’s telling the truth or is accurate. People are free to trust anyone they choose. To me he comes off as a sawed-off runt who has short man syndrome. He’s bitter because he’s not tall.

What does Jon Stewart think of this? His is likely to be the most trustworthy comment. ;)

These pollsters certainly didn’t ask me. My most trusted newscaster is also on the Comedy Channel. Trust exudes from every pore when Larry the Cable Guy reports on women with a lot of hair on their backs, artfully omitting any references to Katie Colonoscopy. (the one who embarrassed the world by having a couric on live TV)

…-What? says: “Look at Maher. He is a failed comedian as well as a failed talk show host.”…….Right you are dude! Bill Maher’s show has only been running on ABC/Comedy Central for fifteen years, not too bad for a failed talk show host. Those that are upset with Jon Stewart being voted the most trusted newscaster do know something. They do know what Limbaugh and O’Reilly and Dobbs boot polish tastes like. Tune into FOX News you constipated dweebs.

Why do failed comedians find that they are qualified to become broadcasters? Look at Maher. He is a failed comedian as well as a failed talk show host. I really don’t find that failed comedians laughing AT the American public for how they’re getting screwed over by their own government, all that funny.

At the opposite end, some have rush oxycontin limbaugh and fox news for their source of info/talking points. Give me comic truth, keep all fallacy and falsehoods at the other end.

The people who hate Jon Stewart are the same people who watch Fox News and believe everything they hear. Jon is smarter, more honest, and more insightful than anyone on the other networks. The fact that he is also funnier and more entertaining is just icing. Of course, idiots will always hate people who are smarter than them. See above posts.

Yes i watch and like Jon Stewart, it wasnt a knock on him at all, just a knock at people who could possibly think he is a newscaster. Also a knock on people of this country who would go to Jon Stewart to get their news, and a knock at the news industry for becoming so terrible that people would seek out Jon stewart for news.

Geez, what’s with the hate people? “We no longer deserve this country or its constitution” because the younger generation doesn’t trust traditional media?

“Newscaster? I can’t believe these people are allowed to vote in anything!” That’s too bad, because I’m pretty sure Jon Stewart’s fanbase were the same people that supported and helped elect Obama.

How old are you people? Have you ever even watched “the Daily Show”? Walter Cronkite was the last of an extinct brand of honorable journalism. Jon Stewart is critical, honest, hilarious, and doesn’t put up with **** the way newscasters today do. After getting news from many sources on the INTERNET, it is refreshing to hear a COMEDIAN’S opinion on it. We don’t need to be TOLD HOW TO THINK.

    So back off.

Ummm… Jon Stewart does not do news, he does commentary/comedy. What a degenerate society we have today. We cant even distinguish newscasters from commentators…. We no longer deserve this country or its constitution.

For the past 8 years or so, I watched network news and big time “newscasters” fail to do their job. Thanks to my kids, I found the Daily Show. It was the only “newscast” that dared to ask the questions and show what our government was really doing. I certainly trust Stewart to not toe the lins for ANY administration. Thank you.

Is this a joke? Is this for real? Jon Stewart is a COMEDIAN with a COMEDY show, he is NOT a newscaster, nor is his show NEWS. We are in serious trouble people if this is the “news” people are trusting WOW!!!

I’m not sure this poll tells us that Time readers are lacking in intelligence or if the network news anchors are so bad even John Stewart is better.

    I guess a both could be true….

I’d agree about the John Stewart choice. He was cracking me up the past two nights… and it’s a shame that a comedic show is probably the most accurate show on TV.
