reggae-heritage.jpgWell-traveled reggae crew Morgan Heritage recently kicked off their latest US tour and will play North St. Louis’ Studio Hitz club tonight. The group is based in St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands) but started out in New York and Massachusetts.

The quintet, which has the energy and melodicism of Steel Pulse, is making their first appearance in St. Louis since playing the 2002 Warped Tour. The current tour is in support of their 10th album, “Mission in Progress” (VP Records), released in April. The album reached #1 on Billboard Magazine’s Top Reggae Albums Chart. They have racked up several hits in Jamaica and elsewhere, thanks in part to collaborations with veteran Jamaican producers like Lloyd “King Jammy” James and Bobby Digital.

They previously toured Africa where they were welcomed by the President of Gambia and played to crowds of 40,000 people in Senegal.

The concert was a pleasure to go to. It started on time and was well attended. Morgan Heritage performed a lot of their well known hits including ‘Down by the river’, ‘Don’t haffi dread” and the ever popular ‘How come’ off Don Corleon’s 2005 Seasons Rythm Complilation. Overall the group sufficiently appeased the crowd and left a good impression in St Louis. I will be certainly attending their next concert and any other live reggae concerts at Studio Hitz.
