Better Homes and Gardens November 2008

Tired of the same old side dishes on Thanksgiving? Better Homes and Gardens [2]‘ November issue suggests a green salad. But Thanksgiving is a holiday and the occasion for a feast, so think beyond a bag of mixed greens. The magazine has three suggestions: Spinach Salad With Brie Toast [3]; Butterhead Salad with Smoky Ranch [4]; and my favorite, Fresh Citrus and Cranberry Salad [5], which combines the bright colors and flavors of two seasonal fruits.

You’ll also find a trio of potato ideas (Mashed Sweet Potatoes With White Cheddar, Velvet Mashed Potatoes, and Potato-Cheese Gratin); three recipes for green vegetables (Green Beans With Lime, Roasted Kale and Red Onions, and Creamy Brussels Sprouts), a pumpkin pie trifecta (Double Pumpkin Pie With Oat Crust, Ginger Pumpkin Meringue Pie, and Pumpkin Chocolate Cheesecake Pie). You can search for those recipes — and find many more — online in BHG’s Thanksgiving recipe archives [7]. The main course is well covered in the magazine, too, with a comprehensive Turkey Roasting Guide.
