SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Healthcare and home care advocates launched a second media blitz today to persuade lawmakers to restore funding for home care services that face cuts in Gov. Pat Quinn’s proposed budget.

The Coalition for Illinois’ Future, the broad group of organizations responsible for the ad campaign, is rallying today to oppose the cuts and support Quinn’s proposed income tax increase.

They prefer a tax hike across the board rather than cutting services, which they say could force senior citizens and those with disabilities into nursing homes rather than being cared for in residence.

The group estimates more than 900 people in Madison and St. Clair counties could lose home care services if the proposed cuts are enacted.

“Cutting 30,000 seniors and people with disabilities off of the state’s home care program is unacceptable,” said Keith Kelleher, president of SEIU Healthcare Illinois.  “Tens of thousands of families will be devastated and another 15,000 workers will be added to the state’s unemployment rolls.”

The group held a rally a few weeks ago when they launched their first batch of TV and print ads.
