If State Sen. Maida Coleman does indeed jump into the mayor’s race, she may have hardly anyone left to

Slay

Slay

endorse her.

The day after officially launching his bid for a third term, Mayor Francis Slay announced a fresh round of endorsements:

  • St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley
  • U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan
  • State Sen. Jeff Smith
  • Recorder of Deeds Sharon Quigley Carpenter
  • Treasurer Larry Williams
  • Tax Collector Gregory F.X. Daly
  • Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce
  • Public Administrator Gerard Nester

Though the list does represent a good cross section of city politics, it does leave off some high-profile names: U.S. Rep. Lacy Clay, Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed, Comptroller Darlene Green.

It will be interesting to see where they stand on the mayor’s race.

There is going to be a lot of people scratching their heads after the mayoral election. I’m afraid that the higher powers are saying no more – Slay. Trust me, all the money in the world is not going to change that scenerio, because it comes from the man with the ultimate power and his name is written on the money. We need a change in that office, not for a few southsiders, but a change for all sides.

Same comment as thingsthatmakeyougohmmmm except substitute the name Mike McMillan.

Few real surprises on this list. Carpenter, Joyce and Nester are all current or former members of the Slay 23rd Ward organization. Daly is a long-time Slay ally. Jeff Smith owes Slay’s dad big time for his decisive support in Smith’s senate campaign. Dooley and Slay have worked together for regional goals. The only surprises are Williams and Carnahan.

Noticeably missing from the list of City-wide elected official endorsers is Mariano Favazza, the Circuit Clerk. There have been rumors about him running against Slay. Is this further evidence of a run for Mayor? And what is with marianofavazza.com?

“A good cross section”???? A sitting mayor can’t get more than one black city official to endorse him after 8 years in office and the Post calls that “a good cross section”????

Looks like Rodney Hubbard’s endorsement roster, except for Dooley.
