WASHINGTON–One day after Sen. Barack Obama eked out a whisker-thin win in Missouri, his most prominent supporter in the state—Sen. Claire McCaskill—is already being touted as a possible vice presidential prospect.
It came from this tidbit on the Los Angeles Times’ political blog:
” … if [Obama] goes on to become the clear front-runner for his party’s nomination, expect Sen. Claire McCaskill’s name to surface in vice presidential speculation. True, she has even less experience in the Senate than Obama — he won his seat in 2004, she in 2006. But that may be a positive attribute for a ticket that would be dedicated to “change.” More to the point, she signed up with his campaign a few weeks ago, worked hard for him and, it appears, helped drag her state into his column.”
We asked McCaskill about the veep possibility last week when she was chatting up Obama’s prospects in Missouri. She dismissed it as nonsense, saying Obama was “too smart” for that. Of course, picking as your running mate a popular female candidate from a delegate-rich bellwether state doesn’t exactly seem like a dumb move.
In any case, one thing we do know: If Sen. Hillary Clinton becomes the Democratic nominee, McCaskill’s name isn’t likely to be on any shortlists. Her endorsement of Obama and her comments about Clinton’s electability in Missouri probably didn’t earn the Missouri Democrat any brownie points in the Clinton camp.

Not surprised at all…..Claire is the class of the senate. We are so fortunate to have her here in Missouri. I hope she remains our senator for the next 30 years.

As an Obama and McCaskill supporter, Obama-McCaskill would be a dream. However, I think Obama will be looking seriously at prominent hispanic candidates, such as Bill Richardson or an hispanic woman. Make no mistake, however, if it is not her year in 2008, it will be soon. She is that talented.

Having Claire McCaskill on the ticket as the candidate for Vice President might be the one thing that would make me vote Repulican. Highly popular? Give me a break. After her record of caving in to the Bush administration time & time she will be lucky to win renomination to the position she now holds.

Oh please Obama, please, please pick McCaskill as your running mate. She is loved by the press in MO but hated by everyone else and expect the rest of the country will take the latter opinion once she’s rolled (literally) out on the national stage.
The only reason McCaskill is in the Senate is because she ran against Jim Talent who ran the worst campaign in the history of the world and who she clearly out-masculated.
