Whether or not St. Louis Tax Collecotor Greg Daly can ‘tap’ All Star game bonuses, the article shows how unwise it was for the City to give up All the ticket tax revenue-for Cardinals games, other sporting events, The Fox, and now from the combined Scottrade-Kiel Opera House operation.
It would be unfair to deny Mr. Checketts this ‘help’. But it is my guess when his combined KIel Opera House-Scottrade Center is really ‘rolling’ and pouring people into St. Louis, he would render 3% of admissons to either or both, say in 5 years . Three percent, not six.
Right now, the City should go back to the Cardinals for 3%, not 6% and to the Fox. The MUNY should render 3% from every admission. Yes, even the not-for-profit, tax sheltered providers of professional entertainment.
Professional entertainment should deliver direct revenue to the City not just indirect-food and beverage, merchandise, hotels, motels, restaurants.
With this money, St. Louis hires and trains another 100 police officers to keep people who live in St. Louis and who visit St. Louis-safe. This would be the best use of dollars earmarked for promoting St. Louis-an attractive, exciting, quality, and SAFE environment.

–Jake Wagman has the answer over on ‘Political Fix’. His piece posted this afternoon says we should bill the Obama for throwing out the first ball.
–All things being equal, if you are going to bill the player’s a day’s taxes…it makes perfect sense. Which means it won’t happen, of course.
–Damn that Law of Unintended Consequence…
