As I watched President Obama’s news conference tonight, I noticed a funny feeling creeping over me.
It was a vaguely familiar feeling but one I haven’t felt in a long time. At first, I didn’t know what it was. But little by little, it was replacing my political cynicism. As I watched this articulate man respond to the press, I knew he didn’t have all the answers, I know that he’s fallible, and I know that he will likely make some mistakes as he leads this country out of it’s current quagmire of problems. But the feeling I was having wouldn’t go away.
It was pride. I was feeling proud of my President for the first time in nearly a decade. I was watching this educated, well read, and thoughtful statesman speaking honestly and forthrightly, and I felt proud to be an American.
Amidst all the challenges faced by Barrack Obama, including the economy, the war in Iraq, health care, and unemployment, perhaps his greatest contribution will be restoring honor, dignity, and pride to the Office of the President of the United States.

I posted this earlier on this thread and since Gaucho brought it up again perhaps he can answer why he seems to be threatened by an electronic device versus the use of paper.
I wrote
Why is everyone so upset that he uses one? What is the difference between reading a speech from a device or a piece of paper?
What is it about an electronic device that gets certain people panties in a twist?
Are they saying that past Presidents did not use speech writers? Are they saying that there were speeches that Bush or Clinton or Bush or Reagan gave without it being prepared in advance?
If all Presidential speeches are prepared in advance what is the difference between reading from an electronic device or a piece or paper? What is there about the use of the electronic device to read the speech scares these people?
Perhaps they are just steeped in tradition and feel all speeches should come from a piece of paper. Perhaps they are just trying to look foolish by complaining about the medium that is used.

Well-spoken, PBS and NPR constitute the two best sources of news in this country. A friend just got back from WA, Australia and remarked on how much international news is covered by the media in Oz.
While ansering phones at an NPR affiliate I happened to talk to a retired guy who was also volunteering during the pledge drive. While talking to him I learned that he was private investigator had retired from the FBI as a field agent. I asked him if he would mind me asking his political affiliation -I was starting to laugh when I did, he said that he was a Republican but NPR was the best un-biased news you could get in this country. He also mentioned that he knew many people in the Bureau who got their news from National Public Radio…

EVERY President has delived prepared presentations from notes. Bush used paper as did FDR. The teleprompter is just another way to do that.
Jeez …. Lincoln read the Gettysburg address from prepared notes on the back of an envelope, and you know how HE turned out as a president .

I’m very proud of TOTUS, not POTUS. The Teleprompter is doing a wonderful job at informing the country of the ongoings of the executive branch. I especially like when Obama thanked himself for coming to Ireland…priceless, just priceless!! It’s one thing to have notes and/or a teleprompted script to go off of – but this nitwit reads word for word everything on the screen – such as thanking himself for coming to his townhall meeting
For a man who is supposed to be so intelligent and well spoken – his constant reliance on the teleprompter for every single word spoken has become a bit of an achille’s tendon for the Obama worshipers. There’s no denying he’s reading and not actually speaking. Even Bush didn’t look like he was watching Wimbleton during every speech. lol.

That was just a sick video. I watched about half of this sick film.
So are people saying if you were excited to see McCain or Bush or Palin you were OK, but if you did the same with Obama you were acting like a NAZI? So what was the difference?
They took pictures of Obama giving a speech and played a speech from Hitler, now what did that prove? Did it prove people can edit a film to mean anything they wish?
People like magnum and daddy and I believe screwed say I twist words. Well screwed just proved that he will pass on anything that takes the truth a twists it until it looks like a pretzel.
So I guess this makes them PRETZEL TWISTERS. I would like to say that the film was a lie and by passing it along screwed lied. However, to have a lie you have to have a hint of truth and the film and screwed could not even see the truth een if they came up three levels out of the muck that they wallow in.

When it comes to the economy you are just to funny.
Earlier this month Superdave and his friends were complaining that Obama wa talking to negatively about the economy, they said he should be saying positive stuff. I say something positive and you complain about that.
I believe you were ready to complain about my response no matter which side I took.
The past month or so we have seen consumer confidence rise, the stock market had its first 3 week positive movement in months, business bankruptcies have leveled off, home sales have risen slightly. We are still in store for some hard times but there are finally some positive indicators starting to show, These all could be wiped out in a blink of the eye but they are there.
One of the indicators I watch is gas prices. They have been on the rise. True some have been because of the switch to summer blends in gas. A slight decrease in production by Russia could also have effected the price. However, OPEC did not lower production. The rise in gas prices are an indication that more is being used or anticipated to be used has the economy picks up.
Unemployment always trails the recovery. Businesses want to be sure that there is a demand out there before bringing on staff.
Economist are starting to talk in terms that we hit bottom and have started a modest rise.
As far as other countries not kicking in with money. Well some journalist who were over in Europe said that the general feeling over there is that they have their safety nets in place, so why kick in a lot of money to solve a problem that the US created.
So John you are to to funny when you try to talk economics.

Just like TARP and the stimulus I leave these decisions it to people much smarter than me on economics – our representatives in DC that my taxes pay to run our government.

Some things being tried may seem counterintuitive but our current economic situation was not being addressed using the typically effective methods. For example the Federal Reserve’s usually effective counter recessionary tool of lowering interest rates between banks rates has been ineffective even after lowering the rates to record levels.

What were are going through now is something very different. The conventional ways of fixing it haven’t worked. The obstructionists favor more of ways proven to be ineffective in this crisis. They apparently support the status quo because they are not willing to abandon their proven failed ideas. They offer more of the failed approach.
.
Fortunately our country voted in a new administration that during the campaign was astute, recognized the old way wasn’t cutting it and a new approach was required.

My hunch is the smart people working our economic issues will make the right choices. What I know is their decisions will be more informed than mine or yours ever would.

An anonymous male “friend” of Biden took the video, said Thomas Dunlap, a lawyer representing the seller. Dunlap and another man claiming to be a lawyer showed The Post about 90 seconds of 43-minute tape, saying it was legally obtained and that Biden was aware she was being filmed. The Post refused to pay for the video.

Using your way of calculating the number of people watching the liberal shows but using the top three conservative shows you would have the following
FOXNEWS O’REILLY 3,420,000
FOXNEWS HANNITY 2,987,000
FOXNEWS BECK 2,374,000
To you that means 8.4 million people are watching the conservative show. However, that also can mean that 3.4 million watch O’reilly, then 3 million of the 3.4 million watch Hannitty, so Hannity lost 400,000 of O’Reilly viewers then of the 3 million 2.3 million watched Beck So Beck lost 700,000 of the Hannity viewers.
You do not add all the numbers up, but rather realize that one show is losing people that watched the other show.
However, you are to stupid to understand that point.

You used the numbers to try and prove a point, then got called out and you had to admit that you failed to list any numbers for other networks. Imagine the plummeting support for Obama. It fell all the way from 61% to 58%, which was not even the margin for error.
Using Screwed’s numbers for cable news, why are they continuing to complain about the media being liberal. According to screwed it does not matter how liberal the media is because the people who are choosing to watch are watching more conservative news than liberal news. So they need to shut up.
