The Anheuser-Busch Foundation this week gave $70,000 to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri to benefit the group’s Urban Girl Scout program.
That program provides girls who live in un-served and under-served areas with an opportunity to participate in Girl Scouting. Nearly 25,000 girls participate in Urban Girl Scout activities, including jump rope clinics and history seminars, among other things.
“Girls who have participated in the program have shown an increase in self-esteem and self-confidence, gaining new skills in such areas as conflict resolution and successful self-presentation,” Marcia Barber, chief executive of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, said in a statement. “They work as part of a team, collaborate to improve their community, learn to make good choices in their lives and to set goals.”
Those are all good things. Lager Heads gives a tip of the hat to the Anheuser-Busch Foundation, as well as to all the volunteers that keep the Girl Scouts machine rolling. Those moms, dads, uncles and aunts are generally unsung, but they should be much appreciated.
Anheuser-Busch gave $13 million in the St. Louis area last year through its corporate foundation and community outreach efforts.

Nice to see A-B helping out the Girl Scouts. GSEM is a valuable organization and I’m glad to see community and organizational support of their work. Those Girl Scout volunteers are some hard working ladies!

Brito and the gang continue to give away the money they stole from the employees, retirees, and vendors and then spin it like they are supporting the community. They know they can fool a few idiots, like some of the happy face posters here.

the reason of the bashing is that this company, inbev has no clue as to what it is doing. Thousands let go, one lie after another. Oh a donation here a donation to a college that has almost a billion dollar endowment. A-B is trash and that is how more and more people view it, Take away from a vet.post org but give to the girl scouts who have money.
I think that is what Ed is getting at.

Upon reading, I was guessing who might be the first to bash ABInbev for this act of giving.
ABInbev sucks when they don’t give money to charity . . . ABInbev sucks when they do give money to charity . . . . Congrats, Ed, for being the first “basher” to post on this article.
They suck for giving out free beer and wasting all that money . . . no, they suck because they might quit giving free employee beer. Jeremiah — c’mon, man . . . Carlos Brito is CEO of the third largest consumer products company in the world. Do you think he thinks about free beer for the employees? Quit referring the old Stanford speech.
Ed, I’m sorry your position was not valuable enough to the new company and sincerely hope things work out for you, but why do you wish ill on the girl scouts?

I’m glad someone is benefiting from ABI. Sorry, but hard working people have lost their jobs. Hard working people are getting ready to lose their jobs. It is commendable that the company is giving to the community, but what about those of us that don’t live in STL, or maybe we don’t have children living at home. Nor do we go to these “shindigs” for the wealthy. We just want to go to work & do our jobs. Funny how no one cares about employees outside of the STL working area!

Lets see: thousands of people laid off locally. a $70,000 gift… what a great deal for the community. There will be more AB job slashing coming up – I have no idea why anyone supports this company.

Our heartfelt thanks to the AB Foundation for their generous support of Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri and the Urban Girl Scouts program. This week’s Taste of World Friendship event at Tower Grove Park is just one of the components of this successful program. Because of AB’s grant, along with the incredible support of our volunteers, we are able to offer programs like Urgan Girl Scouts and the Taste of World Friendship event, providing girls with an opportunity to discover, connect and take action.

Jim, I believe the Foundation is supported solely by an endowment from Anheuser-Busch, although I have not studied the foundation’s finances very closely. I will try to find out how much it gave last year. (thanks for the comment, Taylor.)

I am a retiree from the corporate giving world and used to work alot with AB in that area. Very generous company. With all of the unjustified bad press they are getting, I thought I would add my two cents in. The AB Foundation is their corporate foundation and is the one that gives all of the major gifts in St.Louis. The President of the Foundation is Laura Reeves who is a very knowledgeable and well thought of throughout ST. Louis. Also attorney and accountant. I heard she was at the Girl Scout event for several hours. She attends alot of events. Jim63129- you could probably call her if you want to talk more.
