St. Louisan Serena Burla finished second to Colleen DeReuck in the U.S. 20K championships Monday in New Haven, Conn.

Burla, a graduate of the University of Missouri and women’s record holder in the GO! half-marathon, launched an attack after three miles, trying to catch Magdalena Lewy Boulet. By the five-mile mark, De Reuck had dropped Burla. DeRueck finished in 1 hour, 7 minutes, 21 seconds; Burla trailed by 18 seconds. Lewy Boulet, a 2008 Olympian, was third in 1:08:11.

Former St. Charles resident Jason Lehmkuhle finished third in the men’s race in 59:04, trailing Brett Gotcher , 58:57, and Mohamed Trafeh, 59:01.
