Autumn gets into full swing this weekend, with the fall festival season off to a good start. Here are some interesting choices:
The 29th annual Olde Tyme Apple Festival will be Friday and Saturday at Versailles near the Lake of the Ozarks. There will be entertainment, a parade, crafts, a car show, a fiddle contest and, of course, apple pies.
The Old Miners Days festival will be Saturday in Viburnum in southeast Missouri. The festival has country crafts, and offers the opportunity to descend 1,000 feet into a working lead mine.
Pete Best, the original Beatles drummer who was replaced by Ringo Starr, is scheduled to perform Saturday at the fourth annual George Harrison Beatles Festival in Benton, Ill. The festival marks the visit in October 1963 that Harrirson made to his sister, who lived in Benton.

Tom Uhlenbrock has been roaming the Midwest for eons, looking for rivers to float, wineries to visit, trails to hike, saloons to haunt, cozy places to stay. Let's share, and advice is free.
