Metrolink to Lambert? Do you use it?
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
When you fly out of Lambert do you save time and money by taking Metrolink (one way fare $2 and $3.50 from Lambert)?
Or….
Do you cab it to the airport?
Do you have someone drive you there?
Or do you pay the big bucks to park in long-term?

The answer is, it depends. I try to take it whenever I can, as I live relatively close to a station. I travel for work, and what seems to be missed by Metro (and Amtrak, but thats another story) is that time is critical for business travelers. The hard part, as someone else mentioned, is that there are occasions when I get into Lambert after the last train departs. There has also been an increase of late in crime/perception of crime in and around some Metrolink stations lately. I work with a lot of folks (myself included) that would be happy to take Metrolink to work every day, if the system were more expansive. The two lines we have are nice, but dont come close to covering the city.

I love taking the Metolink to the airport. It’s fast, easy, and cheap. Plus, I usually travel alone, and I hate to have someone go out of there way to take me to the airport. However, when I catch a 6am flight, one of my brothers drops me off at the airport.

I usually Have my wife drop me off, If we had a more complete Metro system @ Chicago’s Amtrack-Metra-EL etc. I would use it in a heartbeat as it is by the time we get close enough to a Metro Park&Ride from NWest County its just as easy to hit the Airport lot. It appears for some reason Missourians/St. Louisans are not willing to support Public Transportation. We need to add more lines/options & we are instead in danger of losing what we have because of lack of funding it’s a disgrace…

When I worked downtown, I used Metro to the airport all the time. Had a few dicey moments, but never anything threatening. I work in Earth City now. Just a short hop to the airport from there, so no need.
But after recent reports, there is no way in h@ll I’d take Metro through downtown. Tame the animals, and I’d consider it again.

I take Metrolink every chance I can. With the road construction and traffic it’s much faster than driving from the city. If I travel for several days, I save lots of money by taking Metrolink.

My wife works at UMSL. We fill out a form, park the garage by the campus police and ride the Metrolink. I couldn’t be easier.

Try parking at UMSL North (downside… it’s a small lot) adjacent to the campus police station. Only two stops to get to the main terminal. Buying the roundtrip ticket (two unvalidated tickets) makes it a $4 parking fee.

Sorry…I should have said we live in U. City and use the Delmar Station. They don’t have long term parking…but it’s not a problem for us. As I said someone drops us off and picks us up.
It may take a little longer, not really sure, but we don’t have to drive around looking for a parking space.

Quite a few of the park-n-ride lots have long-term spaces, just FYI.

Crime is not the issue…its just the extra time required. It is much quicker to drive coming/going and park at the airport. One can wait up to 30 minutes for Metrolink to arrive, then it makes many stops making it much slower than driving.
With business travelers, money is not the issue, time is much more important.

We take Metrolink whenever possible. Since there is no long-term parking we have had friends or family drop us off.
We have even taken the Metrolink to the Amtrak train when we went to Chicago.
I just wish it went more places and had better PR.

I live in Belleville and travel out of town every Monday, returning Thursdays.
The thing that’s keeping me from taking the train is the uncertainty of air travel. My flights get in at 11 PM these days, and honestly there have been too many times when I end up rolling in after the last train for the night has already left.
Instead, I drive. My company pays the mileage to the airport and the parking.

Nah I drive. Up until last year, I hadn’t flown in 15 years. I flew twice, drove my car, and didn’t have one problem. It cost about $20 or so bucks to leave your car for a few days, but so what. I’d rather have it there than parked at a Metrolink station.

There’s actually too much crime, or you imagine/perceive too much crime?
I support Metro, but it’s a bit different for the airport. If I were going somewhere and just had a carry-on, then sure. But if you have kids and a bunch of luggage then it’s a bit of a problem.

When it’s just me, I’ve had friends drop me off at the nearest Metrolink and have never had a problem. It’s always been a quick, safe experience, coming and going.
Now that I’m married, we usually drive ourselves and park in longterm. It takes a little longer, but I’m adjusting…
