Well, if you’re going to stand out in a room full of music icons forget about the subtle, subdued and classic.
The Grammy’s are full of crazy sequins and twinkling accessories on girls and boys, but the American Music Awards are always good for going a little over the edge.
It might have something to do with the fact that the show attracts less serious music afficiados and is really all about the hype.
This year’s show had the added pop-culture gawk-appeal because of Janet Jackson’s comeback, the Michael Jackson tribute, a reappearance by the former music award show queen-turned-raspy-voiced-druggie Whitney Houston and appearances by the always fashionable and gossip worthy Jennifer Lopez.
So mirror, mirror on the wall, who had the shiniest outfit of them all?
My favorite is the Alicia Keys number in blue (stands out in a crowd, fits like a dream and holds your gaze), seconded by Carrie Underwood’s golden Grecian frock (light, as near classic as rock- n-roll will allow and she manages to still look sweet and innocent).
My least favorite, as in shaking head and muttering, no-no-no-why-why-why, is the number on Kelly Clarkson. Unfortunate, boob sparkle madness and her hair looks like air dried from the shower.
Pictured Carrie Underwood, Selena Gomez, Shakira, Keri Hilson, Kelly Clarkson (she’s wearing fishnets, but they have a tendency to look distorted on the web, note to her stylist), Alicia Keys, Nicole Kidman and hubby Kieth Urban, Phoebe Price, Fergie and actress Kristen Bell.
