MCCASKILL GETS COVETED INVITE: Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill attended her first state dinner last night, which also happened to be President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama’s first state dinner, too.
The dinner for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India and his wife, Gursharan Kaur had a guest list of 339 people, including many Hollywood supporters of the president and top Democratic supporters.
McCaskill was among one of the chosen and before the dinner began, she was tweeting about whether it would be “tacky” to tweet from the dinner itself. She concluded that her mother, Betty Anne McCaskill, would think it was so she would tweet afterward.
And, true to her word, McCaskill tweeted after the dinner and then posted a photo on her tumblr account.
McCaskill and her husband, Joe Shepard, were seated between David and Susan Axelrod, Gen. James E. Cartwright, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Penny Pritzker of the ultra-rich Chicago Pritzkers (founders of the Hyatt Hotels chain).
While asking women at the dinner “who” they were wearing seemed to be a highlight for the media, McCaskill either didn’t get asked or her answer didn’t get reported. We also couldn’t find any pix of her online.
We do know that the first lady wore Naeem Khan, an Indian designer, and that White House social secretary Desiree Rogers wore Commes Des Garcons.
McCaskill’s assistant, Adrianne Marsh, e-mailed during the dinner to say the senator was one table away from the president. Michelle Obama had her own table.
Marsh also write that McCaskill thought the elaborately decorated tent in which the dinner was held was “beautiful,” and that she said the entertainment was “wildly wonderful” and the jazz singer was “amazing.”
Entertainment was provided by the National Symphony Orchestra; Jennifer Hudson, a Chicagoan, a singer and an Academy-Award winning actress; Kurt Elling, a jazz musician also from Chicago; and A. R. Rahman, the Indian composer who wrote the score to the movie “Slumdog Millionaire” and who has won two Academy Awards.

The latest security scare at the recent state dinner is much ado about nothing. After all State dinners are public affairs there just so happens to be an invitation list. People that live nearby should be welcome. If all are fed well the state will not be concerned about having enough food for the guests to enjoy. There is a recent hatemongering taking place about a security lapse that just goes to show that when we attempt to spread goodwill for the state hatemongers will attempt to make the state wither. They did not like Roosevelt and his bread either.

Interesting that I never saw any articles like this when area REPUBLICANS were attendees of White House state dinnners during REPUBLICAN administrations. And the media continues to try and BS us that they are non partisan. Dear media – some of us aren’t stupid.

I’m curious, can you let us know if it is typical for media stars/starlettes to be invited to these State Dinners? I just don’t recall seeing Katie, Charlie (or a sub for Charlie) or Brian on the invite lists for State dinners during the Bush and/or Clinton years. Can you get back to us on that?

Shouldn’t they be working on the enconomy and the war instead of partying with 300 of their closest friends including the do nothing Senator McCaskill. Please vote her out. I thought she would be different but she is nothing more than a puppet for the do nothing president.

Claire and her husband are nothing but grifters.
They have already siphoned off over $3 million dollars of “Stimulus” money for their section 8 housing projects. How many JOBS did that create? NONE.
Porkulus is just a huge democrat slush fund…will the Post Disgrace cover it?

Great. The politicians fiddle while the US burns. I guess Claire is out celebrating how she just voted to spend another trillion of our money. But don’t worry, unemployment only went up another 1/2%, so we really are turning the corner!
And by the way: Did anyone else notice that President Obama seemed to have his toast to the Indian Prime Minister written down and placed on the podium. Although he tried to disguise it, he kept glancing at the top of the podium after each sentence.
Is it possible that the world’s greatest orator can’t even give a toast without it being written down.
