Parent committees raising money for graduation celebrations have had to come up with new ideas after wellness guidelines led to a drop in sales at their lunchtime snack tables.

To make up for a 50 percent drop in revenue after substituting healthier options for candy, Francis Howell North parents are hosting their first annual “All-Knighter” craft fair on Saturday.

The event will be from from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the high school at 2549 Hackman Road, St. Charles.  The fundraiser will benefit the 2010 Senior Graduation All “Knight” Celebration that serves as an  alcohol and drug-free alternative to other parties.

Two years ago, Francis Howell Superintendent Renée Schuster suspended the sale of candy at lunch in light of a new wellness policy. Candy sales have been gradually phrased out since then, and the snacks for sale now must meet certain guidelines regarding sugar, fat, etc.

More than 80 booths as well as a balloon artist and concessions will be featured at Saturday’s craft fair.
