St. Charles Fire Capt. Dan Casey said a sport utility vehicle caught fire inside the business shortly after 1 p.m. at CTX Auto at 2725 Veterans Memorial Parkway. Six workers were inside at the time and two men inhaled smoke while trying to put out the fire with extinguishers.

The fire started while one of the employees was taking a short break from installing a DVD player in the SUV, Casey said.

The two men were treated at nearby hospital and released, authorities said.

Investigators don’t know what caused the fire but believe it was accidental. The fire is estimated to have caused about $400,000 in damage.

Terrible thing to happen at any time of the year, much less Thanksgiving.

To the guy that said installing car stereos cant start a fire, you obviously know NOTHING about 12v electronics. Why do you think there are so many fuses in a car?

lol @ the meth comment. I too was diverted yesterday as I drove Vets Memorial yesterday. That shop does all sorts of modifications to cars, not just stereos. My guess is that a welder got careless or a fuel system mod went wrong. I’m looking forward to seeing the Aquatic Center being built next door. With any luck that whole stretch along I-70 between First Capitol and Zumbehl will get a facelift. Multiple shuttered businesses include Kmart, LoneStar Steak, Kreigers, and Mr. Steak.

…and if you believe that one, I have a bridge in the desert to sell…

Installing a stereo does not cause a fire, but cooking meth will!

I think we should be thankful to god that no severe damage has been done because it seems to be a terrible time of the year for this to happen to those employees.

Was wondering what happened here. Tried to go to the grocery store & was diverted around outer rd. Always wondered if this place was upstanding business.
