The Missouri Gaming Commission today voted 5-0 to give preliminary approval for a fifth casino in the Kansas City area, this one in Sugar Creek in eastern Jackson County.

Only one casino operator, Des Moines, Iowa-based Wild Rose Entertainment, has applied for the license so far. The Commission today gave other companies until March 11 to submit applications. It expects to recommend an operator at its March 19 meeting and give final approval after that.

The Commission today also voted to adopt Illinois’ exclusion list for Missouri casinos as well. The list includes 22 Illinoisans (four of whom are dead) who are banned for life from casinos in that state for a variety of offenses. Now they won’t be able to gamble east of the Mississippi either.
