Missouri librarians have come up with four lists of finalists for students to consider in the annual Reader Awards.
Among the books nominated are Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games,” Michael Grant’s “Gone” and Marty Crisp’s “Titanicat.”
Students across the state vote in their classrooms between March 1-15 . The awards are divided by grade levels: Show Me (grades 1-3); Mark Twain (grades 4-6); Truman (grades 6-8); and Gateway (grades 9-12). More than 1,000 schools and libraries take part in the program.
For the complete lists of nominees, go to the Missouri Association of School Librarians website.

I have been in a 48 hour fog reading the Hunger Games and Catching Fire. I couldn’t put it down and had to run out and buy Catching Fire to read the sequel immediately. It’s been since Hairry Potter years ago that a book’s done that to me! Warning to other readers…WAIT UNTIL THE THIRD INSTALLMENT IS OUT BEFORE YOU START!!! (that way you won’t be a mess longing for it!)

I put my vote on “The Hunger Games” because This is the best book I have read all year. Even though the main points of the plot are totally predictable, the finer details are so carefully described that I couldn’t get my head out of this book for two days after I read it, so I turned around and re-read it. And still had to wait a week to pick up another book. Eagerly awaiting the sequel.

Looks like 123456 will be leading the book burning brigade. Its ok though, I know some of those big words are hard to read sometimes…

The only books worth reading are the bible and Sarah Palin’s “Going Rogue”. Everything else is just liberal garbage!!!

Any list of nominees that didn’t include the “Wimpy Kid” series from Jeff Kinney is out of touch with the kids doing the actual reading.
