The timing of the next Highway 40 closure will depend on the weather. If rain, ice or snow is in the forecast for late Dec. 14 or early Dec. 15, the second Highway 40 shutdown could happen a couple of days early.

The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to reopen the closed portion of 40 by 5 a.m. on Dec. 15. At the same time, it plans to close the stretch between I-170 and Kingshighway. To make the switch, crews must restripe lanes on 40 leading to Kingshighway, as well as those on I-170 leading to the flyover ramp to westbound 40. This cannot be done on wet pavement.

Linda Wilson, spokeswoman for MoDOT, said today that if the Dec. 14-15 forecast calls for wet weather, the closure east of I-170 could happen as early as Saturday, Dec. 13.
